Early pioneers of the whip and the scrub
Without a doubt, Bubba made the scrub what it is today. This photo of Jo Jo Keller from New England circa early eighties was taken by Paul Buckley. I always thought Jo Jo could have been one of the first guys to start doing this, mostly because of the old Southwick track. There weren't many jumps but the hills were peaked and kind of forced you to scrub to keep your momentum. http://www.buckleyphotos.com/classicprints/source/image/jojoscrub2.jpg
Danny Magoo Chandler was Definitely the pioneer of the whip. He may not of been as graceful as the riders of today but the guy spent just as much time sideways as he did going straight, weather he was in the air, cornering, or in a swap at full throttle. We have all seen the classic photo of him jumping out of Gravity Cavity, sideways with one hand in the air. I couldn't find the link, I wonder who shot the photo, but this one is from a SX must be early eighties. http://www.dannymagoo.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/19_jpg.jpg
The scrub is up for debate, but I nominate Magoo for pioneering the whip

RIP Danny, but I say Kenny Zhart pioneered the whip on his Bultaco.
