Perhaps the solution for the bike industry? In theory it should be cheaper if you compare 250 prices to 450 prices = sales.
If its lighter should it be safer in theory? Its obviously fast enough and when someone like RC used to detune an older 450 to race...I think there is too much horsepower in that specific displacement.
However whats to stop Yamaha from making a 275cc and Suzuki a 400cc and so on? Could we have a gate full of odd sized dirt bikes?

My understanding is that having varying size displacement is terrible for marketing, how do you compete against competitor if you can't compare apples to apples. (450 to 450)
Not sure about being cheaper, because the 450cc engine is purposed for ATV's and other products as well so if the production line is running just one engine for many vehicles that is probably cheaper in the long run.
